The New Thing!

Have you ever tried to play drums on a keyboard? You know how it always ends up sounding stiff and/or out of rhythm and/or just bad?

Well, it's not really your fault, and this new thing could help you play the drums on your keyboard (or other MIDI controller) in a much more expressive, musical, and intuitive way.

What's the problem?

The problem is that drums use large limbs of the body to create a kind of pendulum effect, and keyboard drums use tiny limbs (aka fingers) which never give you that same pendulum effect. As a result, you can't really play a groove in the same way that you can on a drum set. So what's the solution?

The Solution

Map those notes directly to a limb. In other words, swing your arm like an egg shaker or maraca while holding down keys, and the device doesn't "release" those notes until it detects the next "hit" from the controller you're holding. So timing is directly linked to the controller hit, as well as the velocity. In other words, to play a loud note, you make a hard hit, and vice versa to make a soft note. To play a swing rhythm use a loose wrist, and to play a straight rhythm keep the wrist stiff.
